Pearse Lucas Named PING All-American for Second Straight Season

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of the South sophomore golfer Pearse Lucas collected a second straight PING All-America accolade, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Tuesday (June 20). 

The two-time Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Player of the Year and PING All-Region selection was selected as an Honorable Mention after earning Second Team laurels in 2022. 

Entering the National Championships ranked 14th according to the GolfStat rankings, the Charlotte, N.C. native played in 26 rounds for the University of the South, posted a 73.5 stroke average. 

Also, for the second straight year, he qualified for the NCAA Championships. After the team took ninth place in 2022, he qualified as an individualist in the 2023 event. 

During the 2022-23 season, the rising junior participated in the 12th Annual Patriot All-America Invitational, which is an event for only for individuals who were named All-Americans during the 2022 season. Over the three-day event, he carded a 215 (66-76-73), and his 66 in the opening round was tied for the lead. 

According to GolfStat, Lucas finished 29th in the final Division III rankings with an adjusted scoring average of 73.34 and a 76.07 rank of schedule. 

Lucas is the sixth All-American in the history of the men's golf program, and he is the first student-athlete to earn the award twice. 

The University of the South men's golf team, who finished in the top-20 in the final national polls, took third at the SAA Championships this past spring.
