No. 12 Women's Tennis Rolls Past Vikings; Advances to Ninth SAA Tournament Match

CHATTANOOGA - The University of the South women's tennis team eliminated Berry College, 5-0, in the semifinals of the 2023 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Tennis Tournament, Saturday morning from the Champions Club. 

The Tigers will make its ninth SAA Tournament Championship match in as many years the program has qualified for the postseason event.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee took all three points to storm out to a 3-0 lead. With the regular doubles lineup back in for the Tigers on Sunday, No. 1 Brooke Despriet/Katherine Petty (16-4) cruised to an 8-2 win at the top flight. 

-Ansley Carpenter/Natalia Nassar (11-4) improved their winning streak to four with their win at the No. 2, while Nicole Nowak/Emma Smith (17-4) picked up their eighth straight victory at the No. 3. 

-In singles, Sarah Livingston (10-6) and Natalia Nassar (11-3) helped solidify the match for the Tigers. 

NINTH TIME TO THE FINAL
-The women's tennis program, now 26-0 in SAA Tournament matches, will play in its ninth SAA Tournament Championship match on Sunday. 

-The Tigers will take on Rhodes for the title match on Sunday morning. A repeat of 2022's championship match, Sewanee holds a 13-3 advantage on Rhodes in the postseason. This will be the third time (2017-22-23) the two teams have squared off since becoming charter members of the SAA in 2013
