No. 12 Men's Tennis Defeats Centre; Plays for Ninth SAA Tourney Championship on Sunday

CHATTANOOGA - The University of the South men's tennis team will play for its ninth Southern Athletic Association Tournament Championship on Sunday after eliminating Centre College, 5-1, in the semifinals on Saturday from the Champions Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee got up to a 2-0 lead in doubles play after wins from No. 8 Jordan Theron/Quinn Wicklund (18-3) and Talman Ramsey/Gil Weston (13-4). However, Centre avoided the sweep with an 8-7 (3) victory at the No. 2. 

-That did not matter for Sewanee, as they won three singles points on Saturday to clinch the match. After No. 18 Theron (18-4) and Ramsey (11-4) made it a 4-1 lead, Peyton Erck (10-5) secured his fourth straight win with a 6-3, 6-2 dub at the No. 2. 

PLAYING FOR NUMBER NINE ON SUNDAY
-Now 26-0 all-time in SAA Tournament matches, the University of the South men's tennis team will play in its ninth SAA Tournament Championship match, and are 8-0 in such matches. 

-Sunday's opponent in Birmingham-Southern will be no easy task. The Panthers are 40th in the nation; however, the Tigers took the regular season match up, 8-1. 

-Sewanee is 4-1 all-time against BSC in the postseason, including 3-0 in the SAA Tournament. The Tigers and Panthers will meet in the championship game for the first time since 2014.
