DICKSON, Tenn. - The No. 17/16 University of the South men's golf team is currently in a tie for second place after the opening round at the 2023 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Golf Championships, Friday from GreyStone Golf Club.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Grayson Maddox,
Ryan Demit and
Langdon Aronson all shot a 70 to lead Sewanee, as all three are five strokes from the leader after 18 holes.
-Aronson, after shooting an even par, 36, through nine holes, birdied three of hte next five holes, including back-to-back on holes 13 and 14, both par 4s. He finished the day with a birdie of the par 5 on the 17th.
-Demit also had five birdies on the day, including three on the front-nine.
-Maddox led the team with six birdies, good for second-most in the field. The senior putted four straight one-unders from holes seven through 10.

Colin Edwards trails the Sewanee trio by two strokes with a even par, 72, while No. 13
Pearse Lucas carded a 74 in the opening round.

Drew Miller rounded out the Sewanee scoring at 77.
-Despite the team score through the first 18 holes, Birmingham-Southern's Tanner Bronnum posted nine birdies in the opening round to score a 65, tying a conference for the lowest round at the championship.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
-After a slow start by the Tigers where they were in seventh, shooting at even par halfway through, Sewanee bounced back to finish tied for second with Rhodes.
-Oglethorpe holds a five-stroke lead of Rhodes and Sewanee with a 277, missing their own championship record by one stroke.
UP NEXT
Day two of the championships will start up for Sewanee at 9:10 a.m. on Saturday.
