Pearse Lucas Selected as SAA Men’s Golfer of the Week

ATLANTA - Announced on Friday morning by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), sophomore Pearse Lucas from the University of the South was named the league's Men's Golfer of the Week, as voted on by the head coaches of the league.

With three SAA teams competing at the Visit Florence Intercollegiate this past week, Lucas led all league opponents with a third place score of 213 (70-70-73). His 54-hole score matched a season-low.

Totaling 12 birdies to finish fourth in the field, the Charlotte, N.C. native was one of 17 golfers in the field of 96 to score an eagle. In Monday's opening round, after bogeying holes 15 and 16, he bounced back with the eagle on the 17th, which was a par-5. On those holes, Lucas was third in the field in scoring with a 4.58 average.

Sewanee finished the tournament with an 894, good for fifth place in the field of 16.

Now ranked 12th in the country according to the latest GolfStat rankings, Lucas leads the team with a stroke average of 73.10 in 21 rounds this season.

With the regular season now in the books, Sewanee returns to action on April 28-30 for the SAA Championships from the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
