No. 15/18 Men's Golf Ends Regular Season with Fifth Place Finish at Visit Florence Intercollegiate

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The No. 15/18 University of the South men's golf team fired a 54-hole score of 894 for fifth place in the Tigers' final regular season tournament of the season, the Visit Florence Intercollegiate from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals from Muscle Shoals, on April 10-11.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
-No. 17 Pearse Lucas posted his second top-5 finish of his sophomore season with a three-round score of 213 (70-70-73), matching his season-low in a 54-hole event. Finishing in a tie for third, Lucas trailed the medalist in Cameron Cappuzzo of Methodist by six strokes.  

-Totaling 12 birdies to finish fourth in the field, the Charlotte, N.C. native was one of 17 golfers in the field of 96 to score an eagle. In Monday's opening round, after bogeying holes 15 and 16, he bounced back with the eagle on the 17th, which was a par-5. On those holes, Lucas was third in the field in scoring with a 4.58 average. 

-Grayson Maddox scored a 221 (75-72-74) for the second straight tournament after firing the same score at Jekyll about a month ago. However, his score in Alabama this week was good for 19th overall. On par-4s, the senior was fourth-best in the field. 

-Ryan Demit fired a 231 (78-73-80), while Drew Miller (79-79-77) and Colin Edwards (76-77-81) each scored a 234. 

-Individually, Valentino Cheek carded a 232 (83-73-76) for 52nd overall. 

TEAM LEADERBOARD
-Sewanee fired sub-300 scores (299, 292) in Monday's first two rounds. However, the Tigers did not see the surge of Huntingdon's 291 in Tuesday's final round, sliding the Tigers down to fifth with a third-round score of 303.

-Emory and Methodist entered Tuesday's final 18 holes tied for the top spot of the team championship. However, the teams each scored a 283 en route to a 54-hole finish of 862. 

UP NEXT
The University of the South will now turn its attention to the 2023 Southern Athletic Championships on April 28-30 from GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
