NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The University of the South women's tennis program secured a spot for Sunday's fifth place match in the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Division III National Indoor Championships with an 8-1 victory over Carnegie Mellon University, Saturday morning from the Top Seed Tennis Club. 

Carnegie Mellon is seeded seventh in this tournament, and the University of the South is seeded sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-No. 1 Brooke Despriet/Katherine Petty and Ansley Carpenter/Natalia Nassar posted identical 8-6 scores en route to a 3-0 lead after doubles. 

-In singles, Carpenter used a three-set victory to defeat No. 14 Crystal Zhou, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. 

-Despriet also earned the win at the No. 3, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8), while Nassar defeated Anika Joshi at the No. 6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
