SEWANEE, Tenn. - The No. 33 University of the South men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2022-23 season with an 8-1 victory over the Owls of Kenyon College, Sunday afternoon from the Guerry Indoor Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-It was a Sewanee sweep in doubles play. Leading 2-0, Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund (4-2) went into a tie break with Luis Andres Platas and Eric Zhang. The Tiger duo rolled to a 7-4 win in the deciding game. 

-In singles, Quinn Wicklund (4-2) rallied twice in tiebreaks to clinch the No. 3 point. After splitting the first two sets, 7-6 (4), 4-6, the sophomore went down to the wire with an 8-6 tie break victory to take the point in three sets. 

-No. 8 Jordan Theron (6-3) rallied from a set down to take the top point, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. 

-Peyton Erck (3-2) also battled in his third set at the No. 2. After splitting the first two sets and tied at six in the third set, the junior played an intense tiebreak, winning 9-7. 

-Noah Holsclaw (2-2) picked up the win at No. 5 with a 10-point tiebreak of 10-6. 

-Gil Weston improved to 5-1 with a straight-set victory over Eliezer Gonzalez.
