SEWANEE, Tenn. - The No. 33 University of the South men's tennis team opened the 2023 spring season with a 7-2 loss to No. 10 Emory University in the opener of the Tiger Den Invitational, Friday afternoon from the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Starting in doubles, Emory cruised to its first two wins of the afternoon, led by No. 10 Ryan Glanville/Charlie James with an 8-4 win at the No. 2 point.
-At the top doubles position, No. 18
Jordan Theron and
Quinn Wicklund were in a battle with Andrew Esses and Nolan Shah. Coming back to tie the set at seven points, the contest was forced to a tie break. Down 5-3, Theron and Wicklund rallied to win the next two points to even at five. However, Esses/Shah put down the hammer and won the last two points to sweep doubles, 8-7 (5).
-In singles, it was a pair of regionally ranked foes. No. 14
Gil Weston (4-1) knocked out No. 19 Glanville, 6-2, 7-4, for his first win of the spring.
-At the No. 6,
Talman Ramsey (1-0) rallied from a set down to defeat Brandon Cohen, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
