No. 7 Women's Tennis Rolls to Eighth SAA Tournament Crown

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The No. 7 University of the South women's tennis team finished a perfect weekend at the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Tennis Tournament, as the Tigers blanked its third straight opponent in Rhodes, 5-0, Sunday afternoon from the Adams Tennis Complex at Old Fort Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers picked up three more doubles wins on Sunday, as the team is now 59-10 this spring. 

-Brooke Despriet/Alice Hall (16-3), Ansley Carpenter/Natalia Nassar (19-1) and Emma Smith/Nicole Nowak (10-3) all picked up wins on Sunday in doubles. 

-In singles, Smith (13-5) and Carpenter (15-5) won their matches by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores. 

NOTES AND NUGGETS
-With the win, Sewanee achieves 20 wins in a season. The program has accomplished this for the 11th time in program history. 

-It was the eighth SAA Tournament Championship for the Tigers, but all-time the program has won 14 league titles (1987-89-90-91-97-2007-13-14-15-16-17-18-19). 

-Sewanee is 24-0 all-time in SAA Tournament matches. 

-The program also searned the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. This will be Sewanee's 28th appearance in the tournament, the fifth-most among NCAA Division III schools.

Earning the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, Sewanee will await its opponent in the first or second rounds of the championships on either May 13 or 14. 

The NCAA will announce the bracket in a press release on Monday, May 9.
