No. 33 Men's Tennis Captures Eighth SAA Tourney Title

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The No. 33 University of the South men's tennis team won the program's eighth Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Tennis Tournament Championship, as the Tigers downed the Colonels of Centre College, 5-1, Sunday morning from the Adams Tennis Complex at Old Fort Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers took two of three in doubles, led by Quinn Wicklund and Peyton Erck's 8-1 win at the No. 1. The duo improves to 9-4 on the year. 

-Quinn Wicklund (13-8) won his fifth straight match with his win at the No. 4 flight, while Jackson Davis (9-7) earned his seventh consecutive victory thanks to his dub at the No. 6. 

-Gil Weston (12-7) clinched the match for Sewanee, as he posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory for his 10th straight win. 

NOTES AND NUGGETS
-With the win, Sewanee secured its eighth SAA Tournament Championship on Sunday.  (2013-14-15-16-17-18-19-22). Sewanee remains undefeated (24-0) in SAA Tournament matches. 

-Playing in the program's 98th season, Sewanee recorded its 23rd conference championship. 

-Sewanee makes the return to the NCAA Tournament, as the team earned its 18th appearance to the championship on Sunday (1989-93-95-96-97-98-2000-01-02-03-06-14-15-16-17-18-19-22).

Earning the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, Sewanee will await its opponent in the first or second rounds of the championships on either May 13 or 14.
