ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its postseason awards for men's golf. For the University of the South, three student-athletes were named to the All-Conference Team, while
Pearse Lucas earned two major awards.
Lucas, along with his First Team selection, picked up the league's Player and Newcomer of the Year awards.
Michael Olmsted (First Team) and
Grayson Maddox (Second Team) were listed on the All-SAA Teams.
Lucas, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., has been the top freshman in the league from the start of the 2021-22 season. In 22 rounds this season, he leads th e team in stroke average (72.18), has four top-five finishes and earned Medalist at the Savannah Invitational back in March.
He carded a 229 (74-82-73) for 10th place at last weekend's SAA Championships.
He becomes the second player in Sewanee history to earn the SAA Player of the Year award, joining Tommy Oliver C'20, who achieved the award in 2018. Additionally, he is the first golfer in the SAA-era to achieve Newcomer of the Year status for Sewanee.
One of the top freshmen in the nation, he is ranked ninth in the latest GolfStat Individual Rankings.
Olmsted, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., holds the team's season-low of 67 as a part of his medalist honor at Royal Lakes last fall.
Finishing the SAA Championships with a 241 (78-82-81), he has posted a stroke average of 74.62 in 21 rounds.
Maddox, a junior from Tampa, Fla., earns his second All-Conference selection. In three rounds at the SAA Championships, he carded a 247 (78-88-81). So far in 18 rounds this season, he has averaged 75.72 strokes per round.
Sewanee claimed fourth place at the SAA Championships last weekend from the Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
