Pearse Lucas has been selected as the SAA Men's Golfer of the Week.
The freshman from Charlotte, N.C. took down the field of 95 student-athletes at the Savannah Invitational from the Savannah Country Club. Lucas earned Medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 207 (69-70-68). The freshman achieved his first sub-70 scores this season, as he 68 in the final round is a new low. Additionally, his 207 is the lowest score for a three-round this season by any Tiger golfer.
Despite his two bogeys on the back-nine in Tuesday's final round, he chipped in four birdies on the final nine holes to secure the victory by edging Alex Price of Christopher Newport by one stroke.
He led the field in Par 4 scoring (3.97), and he was one of four players who led the tournament with 14 birdies.
In the latest GolfStat rankings announced on Wednesday, Lucas is ranked 23rd overall and is the sixth-best freshman in Division III.
In 14 rounds so far in 2021-22, he leads the team in scoring average with a 72.21 and two top-five finishes. Along with his win in Savannah, Lucas made a huge statement in his first collegiate tournament at Rhodes in September with a second place finish as he finished behind defending National Champion Will Hocker of Webster (Mo.).
The Tigers are 16th in the latest GolfStat Rankings after Sewanee's sixth place finish at the Savannah Invitational, edging top-ranked Emory by two strokes at the event.
Sewanee will next compete at the Jekyll Island Collegiate on March 18-20.
