Women's Tennis Wins 12th Straight Season Opener; Knocks Off Cumberland at Home

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's tennis team, ranked No. 6 in the final 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Division III poll, took down Cumberland University (Tenn.), 7-2, Thursday afternoon at home. 

Cumberland is receiving votes in the 2022 NAIA Preseason poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Freshmen Alice Hall, Ansley Carpenter and Sarah Livingston rolled to straight-set victories in singles play as they each posted their first collegiate dual victories. Carpenter (15th) and Livingston (16th) are ranked in the regional rankings. 

-Natalia Nassar and Caroline Adams picked up wins at the No. 5 and 6 points, respectively. 

-In doubles, Brooke Despriet and Hall, ranked sixth in the region, cruised to a shutout of Maria Arbelaez/Elina Sungatullina. 

-Sewanee has won 12 season openers in a row, dating back to the 2011 season.
