Demit Places in Second; No. 12 Men's Golf Rebounds from Slow Start to Finish 10th at National Preview

TUNICA, Miss. - The No. 12 University of the South men's golf team rallied after a slow start in Sunday's opening round to finish 10th at the NCAA Division III National Preview, hosted by Transylvania University and Keene Trace. The three-round tournament lasted from Oct. 2-4.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
-Ryan Demit used back-to-back par scores (72) in the final two rounds to finish second individually with a 54-hole score of 218. On Par 3s, the senior posted a 2.92 average and a 4.42 average on Par 5s. Finishing with 10 birdies on the week, Demit totaled four birdies in each of the final two rounds. 

-Pearse Lucas went into Monday's final round tied fir third, but the sophomore finished 12th with a 223 (73-73-77). In Monday's second round, Lucas posted an eagle on the fifth hole, a par-5. 

-Grant Mahaffey bounced back after an 81 opening round with a 75 and 74 in the final two rounds. Of the 54 holes he faced, the sophomore fired 33 pars. 

-Will Brookby (241) and William Cooper (257) rounded out the Sewanee scoring. 

-Alex Price (209) of Christopher Newport ran away with the medalist honors thanks to a 67 second round. 

TEAM LEADERBOARD
-The Tigers could not get anything going in the opening round, as the team was near the bottom of the leaderboard with a 313 after 18 holes. Sewanee would recover to score a 302 and 297 in the last two rounds to finish 10th overall. 

-Christopher Newport fired a winning score of 886 (299-294-293) to win the event. Methodist, Wittenberg, Washington and Lee and Carnegie Mellon all finished with 900 scores. 

UP NEXT
Sewanee will next head to Florida for the Golfweek Invitational on Oct. 16-18 for the Golfweek Fall Invitational.
