Freshmen Win Five Events as Tigers Edge Vikings

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's swimming and diving team, down early, rallied to win the final four events, the 500-yard freestyle, the one-meter optional dives, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard freestyle relay, to help down Berry, 115.5-105.5 Friday night to open the 2017-18 season at the Fowler Center Pool.

Of the wins aforementioned late, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay were won by freshmen.

Lee Haber tallied his first two career event wins, winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. In the 200, he finished with a 2:00.70, while timing a 4:54.42 in the 500.

A quartet of freshman who helped lift the Tigers over the Vikings were the four who swam the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Robert Coles, Haber, Hayden Everett and Jacob Finco swam to a 1:32.02 time to win the event.

Another newcomer, James Hoyt, collected the 1,000-yard free event, swimming to a 10:21.42 time, while Carl Failing took the 200-yard free with a 1:49.26.

The Tigers return to the pool on Oct. 27 when they host the Sewanee Invitational, which will run through Oct. 28.
