Swim teams sweep Milligan and Berry

ROME, Ga. (Feb. 2, 2013) – In their final meet before the upcoming Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships, the Sewanee men and women's swimming and diving teams swept both Milligan College and host Berry, Saturday.

In the women's event, the Tigers defeated Milligan, 106-26, and then outlasted Berry, 95-34. On the men's side, Sewanee swam past Milligan, 114-24, and then topped the Vikings, 87-47.

During the one-day meet, the Tigers set a number of pool records. For the women's squad Mallory Graves, Astrid Escobar, Sara Neil, and Katie Wakefield broke the 200 Medley Relay mark with a time of 1:54:10. Later on, Haley Shepherd, Erin Neil, Wakefield, and Escobar finished the 200 Free Relay in second place after breaking the old pool record with a time of 1:47.82.

Individually, Escobar continued to dominate. The Panama City Beach, Fla., native broke the 100 and 200 Breaststroke records with marks of 1:08.01 and 2:25.71.

Additionally, Grace Cobbs finished the six-dive 1-meter event with a new 134.70 point-total. The old 1-meter six-dive record was 129.00 points.

In the men's meet, Marcus Rochelle, Phillip Link, Evan Escobar, and Ryan Holody broke the 200 Medley Relay pool record with a time of 1:39.51. Also in the relays, Holody, Brian Glatt, Jackson Cromer, and Alex Linton, finished second in 200 Free Relay with a mark of 1:30.54.

Individually, Link broke two more pool records in both the 100 Breaststroke (59.12) and 200 IM (2:04.24). The senior was joined by Cromer, who shattered the 100 (54.41) and 200 Backstroke (1:59.71) times.

Additionally, Glatt dominated his events with new pool records in the 1000 (10:13.80), 50 (22.00), and 100 Freestyle (48.27) races.

Finally, Charles Boclair III won the 1-meter six-dive event with 154.35 points. That total was more than 53 points higher than any previous diving event inside the Cage Center Natatorium.

The Tigers will now take two weeks off before heading to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2013 SAA Championships.
