SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted NAIA powerhouse Asbury (Ky.) on Saturday and Sewanee men's swimmier
Peter Schildknecht (Cincinatti, Ohio, Moeller High School) overtook the \#3 Asbury swimmer in the final heat (1000 free) to even the score at 140 for the final men's total. The Sewanee women fell 167-92. This was our most exciting meet of the year,” said Sewanee assistant coach
Meredith Novack after the meet. “The whole team was cheering for Peter to beat their third place swimmer in the 100 and he did it to tie. It was a great team effort and I am really happy for our team,” she continued.
Other event winners for the men were the 200 medley relay team of
Ryan Holody (Austin, Texas, St. Andrew's),
Courtland Day (Barnesville, Ga., Upson-Lee),
Jaime de la Fuente (Prospect, KY, Trinity High School) and
Loren Peterson (Oak Park, Ill., Oak Park/River Forest) with a 1:40.95; Day in the 100 breast with a 1:00.89 mark and 200 breath with a 2:17.85 finish, de la Fuente in the 200 butterfly (2:03.81) and 100 butterfly (55.34); Peterson in the 50 free (22:51); and the 200 free relay team of
Will Overton (Jacksonville, Fla., Episcopal), Holody,
John Richards (Evans, Ga., Greenbrier) and Peterson in 1:32.44.
For the women,
Ann Rene Shores (Shreveport, La., Loyola College Prep)won the 200 IM in 2:30.23 and the relay team of
Julie Bennett (Palm Harbor, Fla., Palm Harbor),
Tara Moye (Barnesville, Ga., Home School),
Jaime Dickerson (Brandon, Fla., Brandon) and
Mollie Wakefield (Fayetteville, Tenn., Lincoln County) took top honors in the 200 free relay with a finish of 1:48.21.
Bre Brumby (Marietta, Ga., Marietta High School) dove uncontested and performed well, scoring 104.40 from the 1 meter board.
Julian Davis (Alpharetta, Ga., North Springs) was the lone men's diver and took scored 154.05 and 1:38.38 in the 1 and 3 meter diving events.
