Named After C.L. "Sonny" Montgomery C'1938, the University of the South baseball team has played games at Montgomery Field since the 1960s. The facility has gone through major renovations in the 21st century.
  • In the early 2010s, the dugouts were renovated, as well as the stands that offer chair back seating and an indoor press box with heating and air conditioning.
  • An indoor hitting facility was added with weight room for players to take swings when weather conditions are not favorable.
  • In the fall of 2019, the infield dirt was converted to turf, as well as foul territory and the bullpens. The Sewanee bullpen, located down the right field line, has an opening where pitchers in the bullpen can watch the game without having to see through a fence.

Sewanee Baseball dates back to 1875. Known as "the first Sewanee Athletic Contest", the Tigers played Lynchburg Artics in a game at Tullahoma, Tenn. in the summer of 1875. Sewanee sponsored baseball off and off from 1975 to 1922. Playing 46 seasons, those teams compiled a 136-144-4 record. The program was revised in 1960 with Shirley Majors led the program for its first 11 years of the restart, posting a 117-126-1 overall record and two College Athletic Conference Championships in 1967 and 1969.Â
