SEWANEE, Tenn. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released on Tuesday the recipients of the Academic All-District® award for the sport of softball.
From the University of the South,
Eve Bournias and
Alice Charboneau were named to the postseason award.
Formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated:
- A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
- Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
- No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Bournias, a junior from Grosse Pointe, Mich., earned Honorable Mention honors on the All-SAA Team this past season on the diamond. She tallied a .315 batting average in 39 games for the Tigers with 11 extra-base hits and 17 runs scored. She also swiped 14 stolen bases.
A dual-sport athlete who also participates with the field hockey squad on campus, she also competes with the Greek National Softball Team. In the classroom, Bournias is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and Phi Kappa Epsilon. She is majoring in Economics with a Business minor.
Charboneau, a senior from Manassas, Va., posted a .365 batting average and six homers en route to a Second Team selection on the All-SAA Team in 2023. She slugged .683 and added a .387 on-base percentage.
Over her four-year career, she had a slash (batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage) of .393/.420/.675 with 12 home runs, 73 RBI and 39 runs socred. Additionally, in 252 career at-bats, she only struck out 14 times.
She earned a degree in Neuroscience over the weekend from Sewanee.
The softball program at Sewanee saw new season-bests in 2023. Recording 12 wins during the regular season, the mark was the fifth-most in program history. Winning seven conference games and three series, the seven wins is the third-highest in school history.
On the diamond, the program set new marks in batting average (.262), hits (253), extra-base hits (53), runs batted in (111), total runs scored (127), stolen bases (65) and earned run average (4.87).
From the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), 11 student-athletes were recognized from Berry, Millsaps and Sewanee.
The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 6.
