Jeff Heitzenrater is the head coach for the University of the South men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field teams.

Entering the 2019-20 season, Heitzenrater is in his 20th as head women's cross country coach and his 21st as head men's coach. With the track and field programs, he is in his 22nd season with the men and 20th with the women.

As head coach of the Cross Country program, he has coached 41 all-conference selection, 39 all-region runners and has seen eight student-athletes compete at the National Championships

He is in his 29th year with the University of the South, spending his first seven years in the Office of Admissions.

A 1990 graduate of Duke University, Heitzenrater was a 400- and 800-meter runner for the Blue Devils track team under Hall of Fame Coach Al Buehler. He holds a USA Track & Field Level 2 Certification in Endurance Events and Jumps and is a member of the U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association.

Heitzenrater also received a Masters in Sport Administration from Belmont University in 2009. In the summers, he works as the camp director for the Sewanee All-Sports Camp.

He and his wife, Kim, C'89, live in Sewanee with their sons, Andrew, C'19, and Larson.
