Cross Country Teams Record Identical Seventh Place Finishes at JSU Struts XC Opener

OXFORD, Ala. - The Sewanee cross country teams earned identical seventh place finishes to open the 2019 season and the Bill Cooper era at the Jacksonville State Struts Cross Country Season Opener. The teams ran a course in Oxford, Ala. at Choccolocco Park.

-Freshman Molly Joseph led the Tigers with a 24th place finish with a 16:00.30 time in the 4K race. The Augusta, Ga. native finished fourth among Division III runners.

-Ellie Herron crossed the finish line at 16:33.20 for a 42nd place finish, while Janie Schmitt posted a 16:50 mark.

-Ann Chapman Haynes posted a time of 16:57.60, while Elizabeth Chandler recorded a time of 17:57.80.

-Other finishers include Perry Gresham (18:47.80), Madison Sellers (19:05.50), Mary Ackerly (19:32.50) and Patricia Hammet (19:40.10).

-As a team, the Tigers placed in seventh out of 14 teams from all NCAA Divisions and the NJCAA. In terms of Division III, the Tigers finished second behind Emory.

-Ash Midyett led the Tigers with a 30th place finish in the 5K race with a 16:18, while Jack Barganier came in 1.4 seconds later with a 16:19.40 time for 32nd place.

-Bram Atkins scored for Sewanee with a 16:37.60 time, while Wesley Cusack posted a 17:15.60.

-Other results include Sam Kearley (17:51.40), Patrick Rodriguez (18:45.30), Rob Ritchie (18:53.20), Ian Boer (19:12.10), Joseph Brown (19:17.60) and Alex Margaglione (22:28.60).

The Tigers will be back in action Sept. 14 at the North Georgia Invitational.
