Volleyball Begins Second Half of League Play with Victory over Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee volleyball team opened the second half of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) schedule with a 3-1 victory over Centre College Tuesday afternoon inside Alumni Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers took the first two sets of the match by set scores of 25-20 and 25-21. The Tigers recorded a .385 hitting percentage (16-1-39) in the opener.

-In the second set, trailing 20-18, the Tigers won seven of the eight final points, including two aces by Lilly Reilly.

-In the third set, Sewanee trailed 19-14 late, but the team rallied to even the set at 20 points apiece.

-After a Centre timeout, the home team scored the final five points on a kill and two attack errors and aces each to win, 25-20, to avoid the shutout.

-The Tigers would put the contest away in the fourth set, posting a .333 attack percentage (13-3-30).

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Five different Tigers recorded double-digits in digs. Sydney White and Olivia Nichols each had 13 to lead the Tigers. Nichols added 12 kills and a career-best five service aces.

-Lilly Reilly tied a career-best in aces with five and added 12 kills and 10 digs.

-Destiny Stewart posted 11 kills and digs each, while Constance Connolly had 42 assists and 12 digs.

-The Tigers recorded a season-best 14 service aces in the win. It is the most aces in a conference match since Sewanee became a charter member of the SAA in 2012. The previous record of 13 was last set in 2017 in a 3-0 win vs. Oglethorpe.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Alice Rodgerson had 17 kills and posted 13 digs.

-Peyton Vacala led all players with 20 digs.
