SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee volleyball team had an exciting first set, but the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) leader Berry defeated Sewanee in straight sets, 29-17, 25-14, 25-14, Saturday afternoon at Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers (7-8, 1-5) started the match on an 9-1 run, but the Vikings (12-3, 7-0) would rally to get the set to a two-point deficit, 19-17. After a Sewanee timeout, the Purple and Gold made it 21-17 before Berry rallied once again to make it 23 all.
The Tigers had a chance for the set victory after taking the lead 25-24 after a Berry attack error, but the Vikings earned a kill to tie the match back at 25.
After a back-and-forth battle for points 26 and 27, Berry would eventually get the 28th and 29th point the win the set.
After winning the opener, the Vikings never looked back, taking the next two to win the match.
Claire Crowe had 13 assists in the match.
The weekend homestand concludes Sunday when Oglethorpe comes to the Domain. First serve is at 1 p.m.
