CONWAY, Ark. - The Sewanee track and field teams saw five student-athletes qualify for running event finals on Friday in the opening day of the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Track and Field Championships, hosted by Hendrix College.

WOMEN TOP PERFORMERS
-Kelsie Schiavone broke the school record in the 400 meters, last set by Faith Spencer in 2012 (59.87). The senior won the preliminary event with a time of 58.08 seconds, shattering her previous best by 2.58 seconds.
-Meredith Stuber also qualified for two running event finals on Friday. In the 200 meters, she improved her season-best time by 0.11 seconds with a 26.80-second mark.
-In the 100 hurdles, the senior finished fifth in the event with a 16.27-second time, improving her personal-best mark by 0.61 seconds.
MEN TOP PERFORMERS
-Letherio Jones qualified for the 400-meter finals with a 50.32-second dash in the 400 meters, good for third place. The junior improved his career-best mark by 0.73 seconds with the finish.
-Also qualifying in the 400 meters is Ford McGovern with a personal-best time of 50.71 seconds, improving his time by over a second.
-Miles Martin will run Saturday in the both the 110 and 400 hurdles. Leading the team in both events this season, the junior improved on his personal-best marks in both events. In the 110, the Pittsburgh, Pa. native finished sixth with a 16.55-second mark, improving his PR by 0.47 seconds.
-In the 400 hurdles, Martin earned an eighth place finish with a personal-best time of 59.23 seconds, improving the time by almost a full second.
