Nelson breaks school record in weight throw; Sewanee has a good day at its annual Tiger Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2015) – Led by a new school record from senior Amy Nelson, the Sewanee track and field teams performed well at their annual Tiger Indoor Invitational, Saturday, inside the Fowler Athletic Center.

Nelson tossed a new record distance of 12.68m on her first attempt. That gave her a fourth place finish in the event.

Along with Nelson, Tyler Fishback was outstanding in his field events. Fishback finished second in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.85m. The first-year Tiger finished ahead of athletes from Emory, Carson-Newman, Birmingham-Southern, and Oglethorpe.

Also in the men's field events, Lonnie Scott and Elijah Brooks-Davis finished in the top-six in the shot put. Scott finished fifth with a toss of 11.99m while Brooks-Davis added a distance of 10.48m.

In the men's spirits, Cortez Brown finished ninth in the 55-meters with a time of 6.68 seconds.

In the men's distance medley relay the Tiger team of Bradford Lepik, Zach Abeles, Amiel Emerson, and Logan Stockton won the event with a time of 11:02.67.

"Despite having only a limited team competing today, I was proud of the effort and solid performances that I saw today," said head coach Jeff Heitzenrater.

Sewanee continues its season when the Tigers host the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on February 28.
