ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association on Monday afternoon, senior goalkeeper Brianna Young has been selected as the SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after her performance in goal in Sewanee's 19-8 win over Centre.
Young recorded a 75 percent save percentage (18-of-24) in 42:20 between the pipes in the Tigers' 19-8 win over the Colonels of Centre College. Finishing with 18 saves for the game, the senior recorded 15 saves on 18 total shots in the first half and allowed just two goals in the first 30 minutes.
The Feeding Hills, Mass. native is 6-4 on the season with 84 saves, averaging 8.8 goals per game. Recording a save percentage of 53.8, she leads the SAA in the category in 490 minutes.
Young and the rest of the Tigers return to action in the SAA Tournament this weekend. The Tigers, who earned a No. 2 seed and a first round bye, will play the winner of Centre and Oglethorpe in the semifinals Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
