Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Setback to Centre, Earn Postseason Home Contest

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee women's lacrosse team fell to Centre College on Sunday 19-8. With the loss, Sewanee will host a first round matchup in the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

-The two teams split the first two goals in a 1:10 span. Catherine Crigler broke the scoring at the 27:41 mark in the opening period.

-The Colonels struck for three straight goals in nearly a two-minute span to retake the lead for good.

-After Anna Comer scored the second goal of the game with 23:15 left in the half, Centre went on a 6-2 run to lead 10-4 at the break.

-The Colonels secured the win with a 4-0 run in the first seven minutes of the second half.

-Preston Cooper scored twice to lead the Tigers on offense.

-Grace Fulton won five draw controls with two grounders.

-Amanda Jenkins (5-1) suffered the loss in goal, saving six shots in 22 minutes.

-Colleen Jackson and Hannah Hardy each scored five goals and assisted on a goal for Centre.

-Mary Katherine Hardy won six draws, and Haden gibbons scored four times and assisted on four shots.

-Natalie Marek (12-1) saved eight shots in full time in the cage.

With the regular season in the books, the Tigers will be guaranteed one more game inside Puett Field. With Sewanee scheduled for a bye on the final week of the season, the opponent and times for the April 20th contest are yet to be determined.
