SEWANEE, Tenn. - Sewanee women's basketball returns home for the first time in the new decade with contests against Oglethorpe, Berry and Wesleyan (Ga.) to open a season-long five-game homestand.

A LOOK AT THE STORMY PETRELS: The Petrels enter the weekend with an 11-game winning streak and a 13-1 record. Oglethorpe has already earned wins over Berry, Rhodes and Hendrix in league play. Additionally, OU is ranked 11th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll and is outside the top 25 in the D3hoops.Com poll. 

Averaging 75.6 points per game as a team, the Petrels have three players with double-digit numbers in points per game. Taylor Smith leads the team with 14.4 points per game, followed by Nikki Reed (12.3) and Savannah LeGate (11.6). 

On the glass, OU is corralling 45.6 rebounds per game, led by LeGate with 8.9 per game. 

 

2019 VERSUS OGLETHORPE: Oglethorpe took both the regular season contests last season, defeating Sewanee 73-48 on Jan. 13 in Atlanta and 69-56 on Feb. 10 in Sewanee. 

With OU finishing as the 2-seed and Sewanee the 7-seed, the teams played each other in the opening round of the 2019 SAA Tournament in Jackson, Miss. The Tigers put up a battle, but it was the Petrels that won the five-point affair, 61-56. 

 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Friday's meeting will be the 57th all-time between the two schools. OU, winners of the last six, leads the series 32-24. 

Sewanee's last win over Oglethorpe came on Feb. 5, 2017 at home, dowing the Petrels, 53-50.

 

A LOOK AT THE VIKINGS: Berry will enter the weekend with a 7-7 record and a 1-2 mark in league play. The Vikings are coming off a 70-62 loss to the defending SAA Tournament Champions in Rhodes before rallying for a 61-59 win over Hendrix last Sunday. 

The Vikings enter the weekend with a 2-6 record away from the Cage Center so far in 2020, and the team is 6-15 contests away from Rome in the last two seasons. 

Coming off a season-high 22 points versus Hendrix on Jan. 5, Jana Morning is leading the team in scoring (9.6), steals (2.7) and assists (3.3). 

 

2019 VERSUS BERRY: The teams split the regular season series last season, and the visiting team claimed victories in the games. In Rome, Ga. on Jan. 11, the Tigers routed the Vikings, 67-47, but on Feb. 8 in Juhan Gymnasium, Berry edged Sewanee, 87-80. 

 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The meeting will be the 16th all-time between the two schools, all coming since the SAA's inception in 2013. Berry, who snapped Sewanee's six-game win streak in the series on Feb. 8 in Sewanee, leads the series, 9-6. 

 

A LOOK AT THE WOLVES: Wesleyan enters the weekend with an 0-13 record and is currently on a 38-game losing skid. Prior to traveling to Sewanee on Jan. 14, the Wolves will play Brevard and Berea at home in USA South play.

Leading Wesleyan in scoring for the season in Nala Lawrence, with 8.6 points per game, but Natera Perkins dropped 11 points each in two games at Covenant and Piedmont last week.  

 

LAST TIME VERSUS WESLEYAN: The Tigers and Wolves last battled on the hardwood on Jan. 2, 2018 in Juhan Gymnasium. Sewanee, thanks to a triple-double by Sue Kim C'19, defeated Wesleyan, 81-55. Kim scored 12 points, corralled 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. 

 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Tuesday's meeting will be the 14th all-time between the Tigers and the Wolves, and Sewanee has taken the first 13 meetings. 

The teams first meet on Jan. 12, 1993 and met consecutively until 1997. The series was renewed in 2013 and have played in each season except 2017. 

In Sewanee's 13 wins, the Tigers have averaged the Wolves to 42.3 points scored. 

 

TREANTON SCORING IN BUNCHES: In her first three conference games of the 2020 season, sophomore Ellie Treanton has dropped 46 points, averaging 15.3 per game. The Clarksville, Tenn. native has posted a 45.5% performance from the field. 

Against Millsaps on Jan. 3, Treanton recorded a 7-of-14 performance from the field for 19 points. 

 

EXPECT SOME WHISTLES ON FRIDAY: The Stormy Petrels are 422nd out of 431 women's basketball teams in Division III, averaging 22.6 fouls per game. The Petrels have recorded 10 foul outs this season, led by Savannah LeGate with four. 

Sewanee is second in the conference for the most fouls with 20.8 per game, but the Tigers have only have six disqualifications so far this season.
