SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team were unable to fend off the Majors of Millsaps College on Friday night, as the visitors earn the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) victory, 64-51, from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee was unable to catch up from the get-go. After a bucket by Allison Hitchcock to start the game, Millsaps responded with a three-pointer by Braxton Thomas for the first lead of the contest, which they would not relinquish.
-The Tigers cut the deficit to one late in the opening stanza, but the Majors dropped four points to extend the lead to 21-16 after 10 minutes.
-The second quarter was defense-heavy, as 13 points combined were scored in the frame. Second chance opportunities were a big factor in the quarter with nine of the 17 combined rebounds were on the offensive side of the ball. Millsaps had the upper hand in the statistical category, 5-4.
-Leading 27-23 at intermission, the Tigers cut the deficit again to one possession on a Marlee Smith jumper, but the Majors went on a 6-0 run in a 3:54 span to pull away.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Bella Bombassi led the offense with 11 points off the bench, a season-best for the freshman. She also tallied six boards, three on the offensive glass.
-Bella Taylor scored nine points and also recorded four steals and assists each.
-Allison Hitchcock also contributed nine points.
MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Megan Donaldson scored 14 points off the bench for the Majors, while recording three assists.
-Braxton Thomas and Dia Fortenberry collected nine points each for Millsaps.
Sewanee's five-game homestand will conclude on Sunday with a SAA contest against Birmingham-Southern. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Juhan Gymnasium.
