DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee women's basketball team had a slow first half, but came together in the second half thanks to shooting 60 percent in the second half, as the Tigers defeated Anderson, 66-46, Saturday afternoon at the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic, hosted by Centre College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers had a hard time finding the bottom of the net in the opening quarter, as the Purple and Gold shot 3-for-10 from the field.
-Sewanee found the stroke in the second quarter, and they kept pace with the Ravens. The Tigers outscored their opponents, 14-11, to tie the contest at 22 going into the locker room.
-In the second half, the Tigers outscored the Ravens, 44-24, shooting 60 percent (18-for-30) in the half, including a 10-for-13 mark in the fourth quarter. Bella Taylor went 8-for-10 from the field, 4-for-4 in the third period, and scored 20 points.
-The defense also stood up in the second half, forcing 14 of Anderson's 23 turnovers in the final 20 minutes. Sewanee used that to their advantage, scoring 24 points off turnovers.
This weekend was a real gut check for us. After playing a very skilled Maryville team, we came out today and overcame a slow first half into a big second half victory. I am so happy to be a part of this team, and I am looking forward to what this year holds for us.
It was a great weekend all around for us. The ladies played hard and made adjustments in the second half to overcome a slow start.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Bella Taylor led the Tigers with a game-high 27 points on 11-for-16 shooting, eight assists and five steals. On the week, the junior averaged 22 points per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field (26-for-58).
-Hannah McCormack scored 16 points and stole the fall four times.
ANDERSON KEY STATISTICS
-Hannah Hawkins led the Ravens with 12 points and eight rebounds.
-Carly Hackler scored 11 points with five assists.
The four-game season opening road swing concludes on Wednesday with a contest at LaGrange. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
