MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Sewanee softball team earned a split of the two games in the final day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, as the Tigers defeated the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont, 8-0, before ending the day with a defeat to Kentucky Christian, 10-1, Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SOUTHERN VERMONT
-Sewanee scored in each inning to secure the run-rule, shutout victory.
-In the first inning, Taylor Wagner scored the first run of the contest thanks to a Southern Vermont error, one of six the team committed on the day.
-In the second, Miranda Townsend scored the team's second run on an error.
-In the circle, Goodrum tossed her first collegiate shutout, allowing just one base hit in 16 batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED - KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN
-In the Myrtle Beach finale, the Lady Knights led 7-0 after four and a half innings before Sewanee could even tack on a hit. In the bottom of the fifth, the duo of Katie Roth and Kendell Goodrum ended both the perfect game and shutout bids. Roth started the frame with a two-bagger, and Goodrum brought her home on an RBI single.
-Kentucky Christian added three more runs in the sixth to secure the 10-1 victory.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Taylor Wagner had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, scoring all three times she reached base.
-Kendell Goodrum (3-14) earned both decisions in the split, striking out six in eight combined innings.
SOUTHERN VERMONT KEY STATISTICS
-Mackenzie Rumrill recorded the lone hit for the Mountaineers.
-Julia Whipple (2-4) allowed three earned runs on 11 hits.
KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN KEY STATISTICS
-Summer Collins led the Lady Knights with a 3-for-5 day with two RBI and runs scored each, including an inside-the-park home run.
-Taylor Coleman (8-1) allowed two hits and one earned run to collect the win.
The Tigers return to the field on March 31 with a Southern Athletic Association series against Hendrix.
