Relay teams, Fishback, and Brown lead Tigers at annual Sewanee Mt. Laurel Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 17, 2015) – Led by wins from men and women's 4X400 relay teams, Tyler Fishback, and Cortez Brown, the Sewanee track and field teams performed well at their annual Sewanee Mt. Laurel Invitational, Friday, at the Coughlan Track.

The Tiger team of Amy Lee, Haley Lyerly, Tricia Murphy, and Lexy Rouse posted a 4X400 women's relay winning time of 4:30.62. The men's squad of Davis Couch, Zach Abeles, Bradford Lepik, and Will DuBose posted a winning mark of 3:34.06, which topped second place Emory.

Sewanee's B team of Amiel Emerson, Alec Hill, William Thomas, and Brown finished third with a time of 3:37.89 for six team points.

Additionally, Fishback also picked up a victory when he won the men's high jump. The Sewanee freshman's leap of 1.90m topped the seven-man field.

Brown earned a win in the men's 100m with a time of 11.06. That topped the 10-man field which included four runners from SAA rival Birmingham-Southern. Brown also did well in the 200m when he finished fourth with a time of 23.25 seconds.

Also in the men's sprints, Quentin Jones finished fifth (11.61) and Ky-Edward Anderson finished sixth (11.63) in the 100-meters.

Backing up to the men's 400m, Couch was the runner-up when he crossed the tape in 51.64 while Ables finished seventh in 53.53.

In the 800m Emerson finished seventh in 1:57.36 to move into second place on the league's performance list. Teammate Hill was not far behind Emerson in eighth place with a time of 1:58.61. That moved him right behind Emerson into third place on the SAA list.

Mark McAlister also ran well when he finished seventh in the men's 3,000m with a time of 9:27.35.

In the women's individual running events, Lee finished eighth in the 800m while Rouse was seventh. Lee's 2:23.86 is now the second fastest time this spring in the SAA.

Off the track, the Sewanee field athletes had an outstanding evening.

Senior captain Amy Nelson finished second in both the hammer (40.70m) and discus throw (36.69m).

Karagan Day and Lylery finished in second and third place in the javelin with throws of 20.85m and 13.00m.

In the men's javelin Ridge Davis finished second with a strong toss of 45.44m.

Teammate Lonnie Scott finished third in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.32m. Freshman Elijah Brooks-Davis was not far behind Scott with a fifth-place finish (11.50m).
