No. 20 Men’s Tennis Ousts Millsaps to Secure Sixth SAA Tourney Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's tennis team, ranked No. 20 in the country, earned its sixth straight Southern Athletic Association Men's Tennis Tournament Championship on Sunday with 5-1 victory over Millsaps.

-The Majors made it challenging in doubles play, with the No. 1 and No. 2 spots going to a tiebreak. Millsaps won 9-7 over Jack Gray/Hayden Loeb at the one, but Andres Carro/Jordan Brewer rallied to a 9-8 (7-4) win at the two.

-Leading 2-1 going into singles, the Tigers had no trouble earning the win. Jack Gray, Ryan Olps and Jordan Brewer all earned wins to clinch the match.

Jack Metzger and Jordan Brewer (Most Valuable Player) were selected to the SAAl All-Tournament Team. Brewer collected two singles wins and the 9-8 (7-4) doubles win against Marti-Vertiz/Beck of the Majors.

Metzger won three doubles matches with partners Dane Hawthorne against Hendrix and Alejandro Becker against Rhodes and Millsaps.

With the win in the tournament final, the Tigers will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This is the 16th appearance for the Tigers overall.

The Tigers will wait until May 7 for the NCAA Selection Show for Women's Tennis. The regional round is scheduled for May 10-13.
