ATLANTA (Oct. 4, 2019) - It will be a battle between two of the top four teams in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) men's soccer standings as Sewanee host Oglethorpe in this week's SAA Game of the Week.
The Tigers welcome the Stormy Petrels to Puett Field for a 4:30 p.m. (CST) match, Saturday. Sewanee is currently 6-2-1 overall and a perfect 1-0 in league action. The Tigers opened their conference campaign with a 2-1 overtime win against Berry last weekend.
Currently, the Tigers have only one loss in their last seven matches. During that stretch, Sewanee earned victories against Eastern Mennonite, East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau, Guilford, and the Vikings. The Tigers did tie Covenant on Sept. 7 and dropped a 2-1 decision to regional-power Emory on Sept. 25.
OU enters the weekend with a 6-3 overall record. The Stormy Petrels topped rival Centre, 3-1, last Saturday, in a rematch of the 2018 SAA Championship match. This fall, Oglethorpe has a ranked win over No. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Individually, forward Abraham Lopez leads a balanced OU attack with eight goals and two assists. Tuli Mwarumba has also made an impact on offense and currently ranks in the top-five of the SAA with three assists.
Oglethorpe, who ranks third in the fewest goals allowed, will go against Sewanee, who ranks first in GAA. Neither team has allowed more than a two goals per game average.
