Men’s Soccer Blanks ETBU on the Road

MARSHALL, Texas - The Sewanee men's soccer team blanked East Texas Baptist University, 3-0 in their first match of two in the Lone Star State Friday night from Cornish Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers had the first goal of the match at the 23rd minute with a Tashinga Vhumisai goal off a pass from Thompson Schollaert.

-Sewanee pushed the lead to 2-0 nearly 10 minutes later with a Zach Birkhead goal from a Severin Velasco pass.

-In the second half, at the 52nd minute, the Purple and Gold added insurance with a goal by Ben Vaeth and Schollaert's second assist.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Tashinga Vhumisai, Zach Birkhead and Ben Vaeth each scored a goal to lead the Tigers.

-Thompson Schollaert had two assists in the match.

-Despite Sewanee being out-shot 16-7 in the match, each team had five shots on goal each.

-James Murray (3-1-1) recorded his second clean sheet in the last three matches with four saves in full time.

-Max Ponticorvo had five shots to lead ETBU, two on goal.

-Justin Groves saved two shots for the match.
