ATLANTA - Announced on Monday afternoon by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), junior goalkeeper James Murray has been named the SAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in goal last weekend at the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational.
Murray went 1-0-1 on the weekend at the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational on campus this past weekend. Against Eastern Mennonite, the junior recorded a clean sheet and saved two shots in full time. Against Covenant on Saturday, he played all 110 minutes in goal and posted six saves.
The Black Mountain, N.C. native finished the weekend with eight saves and a 0.45 goals-against average.
In 2019, Murray has 15 saves and a 2-1-1 record with a 0.71 goals-against average, good for tops in the league with Tate Johnson of Centre.
Murray and the rest of the Tigers return to the pitch this weekend on the road. Sewanee will travel to Marshall, Texas to face East Texas Baptist Friday night before wrapping up the weekend with LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, Saturday.
