DICKSON, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's golf team claimed victory at the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Preview on Sunday from the GreyStone Golf Club, scoring a 570. Additionally, sophomore Zack Russell carded a five-under, 139 to earn medalist honors. The tournament was a one-day, 36-hole event.

-Zack Russell took home medalist honors with a 139 score. In the first round, the sophomore chipped in three birdies on holes seven, nine and 11, but from hole 13 to 17, he birdied each hole to finish with an eight-under, 64.
-In the final round, after struggling on the first 10 holes, the Charlottesville, Va. native had back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to hold off Joseph Keene of Rhodes and Blake Farbman of Berry to win the event.
-For the tournament, Russell averaged 2.88 on Par 3s, 3.95 on Par 4s and 4.63 on Par 5s. He finished with 11 birdies, second-most in the field.
-Woodson Smith and Grayson Maddox finished tied for fifth with identical 143 (72-71) scores. Maddox was one of six players who chipped in an eagle, which was done on the ninth hole in the second round.
-Gray Matthews rounded out the Sewanee scoring with a 157 (74-83).
-Michael Olmsted led the "B" team with a 148 score (72-76), good for 23rd.
-Since the Preview started in 2016, Sewanee has won the event twice in the first three years. The Tigers shared the team championship with Oglethorpe with a 579 score in 2016.
The Tigers will next travel to Tunica National in Mississippi for the Rhodes Fall Collegiate Golf Classic on Sept. 22-23.
