Oliver Finishes Fifth at Rhodes College Spring Classic as Men’s Golf Finishes Third

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's golf team recorded a third place finish at the Rhodes College Spring Classic at the Windyke Country Club.

TOP PERFORMANCES
-Tommy Oliver recorded a -5, 211 (71-68-72) over the two-day, 54-hole tournament to finish in fifth place. The junior, after recording two birdies in the opening round, recorded four birdies and did not bogey a hole in the second round.

-In the final round, the Sewanee, Tenn. native recorded a two-under front-nine and reached third place in the event with nine holes left, but back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13 pushed him to a one-under in the final round.

-Nic Vandeventer fired a 215 (70-74-71) to finish in 13th overall at the event. In the three-round tournament, the senior recorded 15 birdies. The Hilton Head, S.C. native recorded five birdies each on the back-nine in the first and third rounds.

-Basil Boyd scored a 218 (73-72-73) to finish in 22nd.

-Nick Powell finished with a 219 (73-75-71), while Gray Matthews rounded out the Sewanee scoring with a 221 (76-73-72).

-Competing as an individualist, Zach Russell carded a 216 (73-69-74) to finish in 15th overall as he led the individual group with Peter Trask of Berry.

-Berry won the tournament with an 845, 19-under par thanks to two individualist earning medalist and runner-up honors. Wesley Heston (206 | 72-68-66) won the tournament, while his teammate, Preston DeSantis scored a 208 (67-71-70).

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season with a tournament in Stone Mountain, Ga. at the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational this weekend.
