Men’s Golf Records 14th Place Finish at Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Sewanee men's golf went into the final round with a sixth place mark on Sunday at the Jekyll Island Collegiate, but with a 304 score on the final 18 holes, the Tigers finished the tournament in 14th place.

TOP PERFORMANCES
-Gray Matthews led the Tigers with a two-over, 218 (73-74-71) to finish in a tie for 22nd, sliding up 16 spots on the leaderboard. After recording four birdies over the first 36 holes, the junior collected four birdies on the final 18 holes on Sunday.

-Basil Boyd finished four strokes behind with a 222 (76-69-77). The 69 score in the second round ties the lowest score of the season for the Tigers, tying Woodson Smith in the second round of the Rhodes Fall Classic.

-The sophomore recorded six birdies in the second round on Saturday, including four on the back nine.

-Nic Vandeventer (75-74-76) and Tommy Oliver (73-72-80) each carded a 225.

-Woodson Smith rounded out the scoring with a 244 score (84-75-85).

-Stephen Shephard of Huntingdon took home medalist honors, firing a -12, 204 (69-69-66). Top-ranked Emory (858 | 298-283-286) won the tournament by three strokes.

-Competing in the individual tournament, Zach Russell scored a 238 (84-77-77) to climb up nine spots for a tie for 19th place. Connor Brown on Greensboro (214 | 71-69-74) won the individual portion.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will have about a month off before returning to the golf course, competing in three tournaments in 14 days in the month of April. The first of those three events will be at the Rhodes Spring Collegiate Classic on April 15.
