Men’s Basketball Battles with D-II Trevecca in Exhibition

NASHVILLE - The Sewanee men's basketball team played an exhibition contest with NCAA Division II opponent Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday, as the Trojans defeated the Tigers, 82-75, from the Trojan Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee claimed an early lead after playing back-and-forth with the home team, 13-11, thanks to a Ryan Starr layup.

-The Trojans claimed the lead back for the rest of the half as the team took an 18-16 lead with 9:53 remaining in the half. TNU used a 9-6 run the rest of the half to take a 27-24 lead into the locker room.

-Trevecca started the first seven minutes of the second half on a 15-6 run to claim a 42-31 lead, but Sewanee was able to cut the deficit to four, 47-43, thanks to an 11-5 run of their own.

-However, the Trojans kept composure the rest of the contest, despite seeing their lead drop to a low of three points in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Adrian Thomas led the Tigers with 24 points on 8-of-13 from the field. Draining 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, the senior corralled seven boards.

-Jordan Warlick finished the exhibition with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists.

-Joey Knox recorded 17 points as well with five rebounds, while Michael Barry added 10 points.

-Ryan Starr recorded seven rebounds, as the team out-rebounded the Trojans, 40-35.

TREVECCA NAZARENE KEY STATISTICS
-Imani Starling led the home team with 24 points on 9-of-14 from the field with six rebounds.

-Adam Webb added 17 points and six boards.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will officially start the 2019-20 season on Friday, Nov. 8, as the reigning Southern Athletic Association Tournament Champions will open the season with the Lon Varnell Classic, hosting Johnson (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. from Juhan Gymnasium.
