Sewanee Claims Sole Possession of Second Place in SAA Standings with 81-46 Blowout of Oglethorpe

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Thanks to a 53 percent shooting performance from the floor, the Sewanee men's basketball team rolled to an 81-46 Southern Athletic Association win over Oglethorpe Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium on Senior Night.

-After Oglethorpe started the game on a 7-2 run, the Tigers would take the scoring from there. The Purple and Gold went on a 14-2 to secure the lead for the first time, and from there, the home team did not relinquish it.

-Sewanee took a 14-point lead, 39-25, into the locker room at intermission, shooting nearly 47 percent from the field (15-of-32).

-The Tigers kept the foot on the gas pedal, shooting 60 percent from the field (15-of-25) and limited the Petrels to 21 second half points.

-The Tigers finished the contest shooting 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field, 12-of-28 from downtown, good for 43 percent.

-Leading the conference in points allowed (68.6), field goal percentage against (40.4) and three-point field goal percentage against (27.6), the Tigers held the Petrels to their lowest point total of the season with 46 and three-point shooting (20 percent; 5-of-25) to go along with their second-lowest shooting performance of the season (30.5 percent).

-With each team entering Friday's action tied at second with identical 8-3 records in conference, Sewanee earns sole possession of second place in the SAA standings with the win.

-With Centre defeating Berry 95-66 Friday night in Danville, Ky., the Colonels maintain their one-game lead in the SAA standings with two games to go.

-Hunter Buescher drained a career-best seven treys to finish with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, 7-of-10 from downtown.

-Luke Smith claimed a double-double with 18 points and 10 dimes.

-Adrian Thomas also earned the double-double with 14 points and 17 boards.

-Connor Smith led Oglethorpe with 12 points and six rebounds.

-The Tigers' home schedule concludes on Sunday at 3 p.m. with a SAA battle with Berry.
