CONWAY, Ark. - The Sewanee men's basketball team had four players hit double figures on Sunday to defeat Hendrix, 83-70, and thanks to an Oglethorpe loss on the road at Birmingham-Southern, the Tigers are now within a game of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) lead with the second half of the conference schedule forthcoming.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee pushed out to a 15-2 start in the first seven minutes of the contest and gave the Warriors their first field goal at the 12:52 mark.
-Hendrix rallied to cut the deficit to 10 points, 40-30, late in the opening half, and the Tigers would maintain the double-digit lead headed into the locker room, leading 44-34.
-The Warriors made it a 16-4 run to start the second half, about a seven span, and the home team did not allowed a Tiger made field goal for the first 5:26 of the half.
-Thanks to the run, Hendrix took the lead for the first time in the contest, 50-48, with 12:57 left in the contest.
-Trailing by two, Sewanee went on 11-3 run to push the momentum, and the lead, back in favor of the Purple and Gold, 59-53, at the under 8-minute media timeout.
-Hendrix, with 5:20 left, cut the deficit back to one point, 66-65, but Sewanee held off the late charge thanks to a 17-of-22 performance from the charity stripe in the final half of the contest.
-Coming into play Sunday, Oglethorpe, 6-0 in the SAA, was ahead two games on Sewanee, Birmingham-Southern and Centre for the SAA lead with identical 4-2 records.
-After wins on Sunday by BSC, Centre and Sewanee and a loss by Oglethorpe, the lead is dropped to one game heading into the second half of the conference schedule.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Adrian Thomas had a strong second half, recording all of his 18 points in the final 20 minutes. He made it a double-double with 14 boards, six on the offensive glass, for his fifth of the year.
-Luke Smith also scored 18 points and contributed six rebounds.
-Hunter Buescher made all nine of his shots from the free throw line en route to a 17-point performance.
-Matt Lee added 15 points for Sewanee in the road win.
HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Preston Smith led all scorers with 25 points, while Kam Brasfield and Marcis Hall added 15 points each.
The second half of the SAA schedule is set to begin on Friday night, when the Tigers return home to square off with Rhodes. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
