Tigers Unable to Capitalize in Road Loss to Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team were unable to hold a halftime lead of 35-28 thanks to a 42-21 run by Maryville in the final 12:10 of the contest, as the Tigers fall to the Scots, 81-73 at the Boydson Baird Gymnasium.

-Maryville sprinted out to an 8-2 lead early in the contest, but Sewanee went on a 17-0 run in almost a 4:30 span.

-Sewanee shot 12-for-31 (38.7 percent) in the opening half, but more importantly, the defense allowed the Scots to 34.5 percent (10-for-29) from the field, 1-for-10 from downtown.

-Leading 35-28 at the halfway point, the Tigers pushed the lead to double digits thanks to a Hunter Buescher three-pointer, 38-28.

-With 12:10 left in the contest, Michael Barry drained a shot to push the lead to 13, 52-39, but it was all Maryville from that point on, outscoring the Tigers 42-21, including an 18-6 run in almost a five-minute span to tie the contest at 58.

-Hunter Buescher led all scorers with 27 points. He recorded two steals and assists each, while making 11-of-13 from the charity stripe.

-Adrian Thomas knocked down 15 points and grabbed seven boards.

-Luke Smith made three 3-pointers en route to an 11-point night. The freshman asl had five of the team's 14 assists.

-Calvin Songster scored 24 points, but Emier Bowman had the double-double, scoring 11 and grabbing 18 boards.

Following Thanksgiving Break, the Tigers return to Juhan Gymnasium with a contest against Piedmont. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
