Field Hockey Concludes Regular Season against No. 14 Centre

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee field hockey team celebrated Senior Day on Homecoming on Saturday against No. 14 Centre, as the Colonels downed the Tigers, 6-0, from Puett Field.

CLASS OF 2020!
-Prior to the game on Saturday, the Tigers honored four seniors: Hannah Bradley, Ceara Caffrey, Eliza Griffin and Jo Jo Young.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Colonels started the contest with a second minute goal by Megan Coomes.

-The visitors put the contest away with three straight goals by Savannah Elpers.

-In the fourth quarter, Centre added two goals by Shelby Young (47') and Katie Jenkins (55').

-Centre is ranked 14th in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) weekly poll. Additionally, the Colonels are the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region in the latest NCAA Region Rankings.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ceara Caffrey had the lone shot for Sewanee in the contest.

-Barbara Canty (5-10) saved five shots in full time.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Savannah Elpers recorded a hat trick with goals in the 13th, 17th and 28th minutes.

-Kristen Mulcahy (14-0) did not see a shot on target in 60 minutes.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will next prepare for the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Field Hockey Tournament on Friday, Nov. 8 in Lexington, Ky. on the campus of Transylvania University. Seedings and game times will be announced as early as Sunday afternoon by the conference office.
