GILBERT, Ariz. - The Sewanee field hockey team, for the 11th time in program history, has earned the 2018 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers acquired a 3.124 grade point average (GPA) for the Advent Semester, and the program has a 3.148 cumulative GPA.
This is the 11th time in the 16 years that the league has promoted the award that Sewanee has been chosen, and it is the ninth straight season Sewanee has been represented.
Joining Sewanee from the Southern Athletic Association include Centre, Concordia Wisconsin and Rhodes.
The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2018-19 school year.
Three Division III academic awards remain to be announced — the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad will be announced on March 20, the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction on March 27 and the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete on April 3.
