Field Hockey Places Three on Longstreth/NFHCA All-Great Lakes Region Team

NFHCA Release | List of All-Region Members

GILBERT, Ariz. - Announced Wednesday morning by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, three Sewanee field hockey players were selected to the 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Team.

Ceara Caffrey, Caroline Sugar and Anne Cleveland were selected to the Second Team.

Earning her second straight All-Region nod, Caffrey entered the postseason in a three-way tie for the conference lead in goals scored. The 2018 All-Southern Athletic Association First Team member finished her junior year with 18 goals and, thanks to two assists, finished with 38 points. Five of her 18 goals were game-winners for the Scituate, Mass. native.

The two-time All-SAA selection earned national honors on Sept. 5, as she was selected an Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention by the NFHCA, scoring five goals on Sept. 1-2.

After earning a First Team selection with the SAA, Sugar was a key contributor to the defense in her freshman year. The Canton, Conn. native helped limit opponents to 11.8 shots per game and a .132 shooting percentage.

Along with her All-Conference bid, she was a two-time Defensive Player of the Week selection on Oct. 15 and 29.

Cleveland also earned her share of support on the defensive side of the ball in 2018 for the freshman. The All-SAA First Team selection gave her team opportunities to score with her transition defense. The Fort Worth, Texas native did earn a goal this season.

This year, 197 Division III student-athletes have been named to Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region teams. Division III teams are separated into six regions: Great Lakes, New England East, New England West, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and South — each region honors student-athletes on a first or second team.

The Sewanee field hockey program finished with a 10-6 record in 2018.
