Field Hockey’s Season Ends with Last Minute Goal by Pioneers

CONWAY, Ark. - The Sewanee field hockey team's 2018 season came to an end in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Field Hockey Championship with a 2-1 loss to Transylvania Friday afternoon.

-The Tigers offense came alive in the 28th minute. After an attempted shot by Elisabeth Domittner that was saved, Violet Hoagland got the ball in the cage to give them a 1-0 lead.

-Taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room, Transy evened the score on a 50th-minute goal by Lily Kramer via an Audrey Denham assist.

-Sewanee had two chances in the final five minutes to score the go-ahead goal. With both attempts coming off penalty corners, one shot was saved, as Ceara Caffrey attempted the shot with 56 seconds left in regulation.

-As the clock expired, Transy was given a corner attempt. Kramer got the ball out of the corner and passed it to Tori Coleman, who scored the game-winning goal to advance to the semifinals.

-Buckley Norman finished with four shots, two on goal, while Hannah Tompkins finished with three shots.

-Violet Hoagland scored her third goal of the season on the lone shot she took.

-Rachel Blum (5-5) saved one shot in full time.

-Lilly Kramer scored one goal on three total shots while adding an assist.
