Field Hockey Opens Home Slate with Victory over Lynx

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee field hockey team opened the home portion of the 2017 schedule with an 8-1 win over Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday night at Puett Field.

The Tigers got the scoring right out of the gate in the second minute, as Ceara Caffrey found Monica Bueso's pass for her third goal of the year.

In the 15th minute, Virginia Barry netted her second goal of the year, and three minutes later, Caffrey found the cage for her second of the match and fourth of the year.

Prior to the half, Bueso found the goal in the 25th minute for her second goal of the year, and Caffrey completed the hat trick with her third goal of the match and fifth of the year with 49 seconds left in the half.

The Purple and Gold (4-1) added goals by Jo Jo Young (39th minute) and Abbie Wrather from Katie Wilson (60th minute).

Lindenwood's (0-3) Janne Madelif Vermeulen broke the shutout in the 55th minute.

Caffrey, after successfully completing the hat trick in the first half, netted her fourth goal of the contest in the 69th minute.

For the contest, Sewanee (4-1) took 49 shots, 28 on goal.

Katya Waters (3-1) earned the win in goal, playing 29 minutes in goal and saving two shots.

Rachel Blum (26:06) and Kadie Hicks (15:04) also saw time in goal for the Tigers.

Saturday's scheduled contest with Lindenwood has been canceled, and it will not be made up. The Tigers will return to the road on Sept. 30 with a matchup at Ohio Wesleyan. The match will begin at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT.
