ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association Monday afternoon, junior quarterback Alex Darras was selected as the SAA Football Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Sewanee's 28-20 victory over Austin College this past Saturday.
Darras completed 71 percent of his passes in Sewanee's 28-20 win over Austin College to open conference play. The junior went 17-of-24 with 212 yards and scored three touchdowns.
The Ooltewah, Tenn. native's three touchdowns helped the Tigers back in the contest with the Roos. After the visitors broke the scoreboard with a touchdown in the second quarter, Darras evened the score on the team's next possession, connecting with Allan Puri for a 10-yard catch.
The Tigers took the lead later in the quarter with a 26-yard connection to Micah Maes.
After Austin retook the lead, 17-14, Darras found Drew Maddox for a 34-yard touchdown completion to give the Tigers the lead for good.
Darras leads the SAA in pass completions (68) and completion percentage (61.8). Averaging 263 yards per game, he has scored six touchdowns.
Darras and the rest of the Tigers return to the gridiron Saturday for Family Weekend to conclude a three-game homestand. Sewanee will welcome Millsaps to the domain Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
